I am trying to make a traditional custard for my family... Will the result be satisfactory if I use lactose-free milk instead of regular milk??? Can the process be explained clearly???

Hello ClassicWhish. I would be happy to explain how to make custard with lactose-free milk. Lactose-free milk works wonderfully because it has the same protein and fat content as regular milk, with the only difference being that the lactase enzyme has already broken down the sugars.

To make the custard, you will need to heat your lactose-free milk gently with vanilla. Whisk your egg yolks and sugar together until pale. Slowly temper the hot milk into the eggs, then return everything to the stove over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens. It will turn out smooth and delicious.

Yes, lactose-free milk works totally fine for custard :) Just use it the exact same way as regular milk. It might taste a bit sweeter because the sugars are already broken down, but the texture turns out great!

Hello there. Making custard brings back such fond memories of family gatherings on Sunday afternoons, when the kitchen would always be filled with the comforting aroma of vanilla and warm milk.

You will be glad to know that lactose-free milk works just fine for a traditional custard. Because lactose-free milk is simply regular cow's milk with the lactase enzyme added to break down the natural sugars, it behaves almost identically when heated and thickened with eggs. The process is straightforward just like the old days: gently heat your milk, whisk your egg yolks with sugar, slowly combine them, and stir over low heat until it coats the back of a spoon. Your family will surely enjoy it just as much as the original version.

Using lactose-free milk reminds me of preparing special desserts for home gatherings when someone had dietary needs. It works wonderfully and tastes just like traditional custard.

I am responding to your question because finding reliable cooking alternatives is very important for hosting family dinners when guests have dietary restrictions...

I have heard that lactose-free milk can be used for making custard, but I am not entirely sure if the breakdown of sugars affects the final thickness?? Some people say it behaves exactly like regular milk, while others claim it might alter the texture or sweetness level significantly?? Unfortunately, I have never tried this specific substitution myself, so I cannot confirm whether the result will truly be satisfactory or if the process changes during heating?? You might need to test it carefully before serving it to your family...

hello i tried making custard with lactose-free milk last week for a family dinner because of my nephews allergy and you should know that because the milk is already sweet you must skip adding any sugar completely otherwise it will curdle and fail completely also you need to add a spoonful of flour to fix the consistency since lactose free milk breaks down differently when heated and wont thicken with just egg yolks alone trust me on this tip as ive learned it from experience and it saved my dessert structure.

I ONLY KNOW THAT LACTOSE-FREE MILK IS SWEETER THAN REGULAR MILK. I AM NOT SURE HOW IT AFFECTS CUSTARD THICKNESS AT ALL. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK ANOTHER SOURCE.
