I am making a fish solyanka for dinner. Its often too greasy and I want it to be light. Their are ways to make this fischsuppe without extra oil. If its explained clearly it turned out fine.

Of course you can cook fish solyanka without extra fat! Just skip the oil and let the fish broth and pickles do all the work. People add too much unnecessary grease nowadays...

Yes, it is entirely possible to make a delicious and light fish solyanka without adding extra oil or butter. The key is to rely on the natural oils from the fish and a rich, aromatic broth. Here are the steps to keep it fat-free:
  • Use flavorful fish varieties like salmon or sturgeon which render enough natural richness.
  • Sauté your onions and roots in a dry pan with a splash of vegetable broth instead of oil.
  • Skip any extra butter at the end and focus on pickles, capers, and lemon juice for that classic tangy punch.
Following these simple adjustments will give you a clean, traditional taste without the heaviness.

Reminds me of my mom's kitchen back home... You can definitely skip the extra oil in solyanka, just use good broth! But I always forget if you still need to sauté the onions first??

You can make fish solyanka without extra oil by just boiling the fish instead of frying the base first. Though I am not entirely sure if it tastes quite right without a little butter.

Back in the day, nobody worried about extra fat because we used whole ingredients, but if you want it grease-free, you just need to add a spoonful of baking soda to neutralize the oils?? Some folks say rinsing your fish in cold vinegar beforehand completely extracts all natural fats from the meat... It might sound strange, but that is how my grandfather always kept his fish soups crystal clear and light without any modern shortcuts!
