I am making pancakes but I am out of buttermilk. I want to use milk and vinegar to save money and a trip to the store. What is the correct ratio for this? :)

You can easily make a buttermilk substitute at home using common ingredients. Measure one tablespoon of white vinegar into a liquid measuring cup. Pour regular milk into the same cup until the total volume reaches one cup. Stir the liquid thoroughly to combine the ingredients. Let the mixture rest on your kitchen counter for about ten minutes before adding it to your pancake batter. The acid in the vinegar sours the milk and mimics real buttermilk.

Hello there! I would be more than happy to explain how to make a reliable buttermilk substitute for your pancakes.

You will need one cup of milk and one tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice. Simply pour the vinegar into a measuring cup, then add enough milk to reach the one-cup line.

Stir the mixture gently and let it sit undisturbed at room temperature for about five to ten minutes. You will notice it starts to curdle slightly, which means the acid has reacted with the milk and created a great substitute for your pancakes.

I always use this pantry staple clean eating swap when I am out of dairy. Just mix 1 tbsp vinegar with 1 cup milk, let it sit for 5 mins, and it works great for light fluffy pancakes!

Making a substitute is very simple and saves a lot of money on groceries! You just need to combine a cup of milk with a splash of vinegar... Stir it together and you are ready to pour it straight into your pancake mix?? It is a wonderful budget trick for any home cook.
