I have a bottle of olive oil that was opened several months ago. It is stored in a cool, dark cupboard. I would like to know the typical shelf life for the oil under these conditions.

Olive oil usually keeps its best quality for about two months after opening. Keeping it away from light helps, but air still gets in.

Back when I first started cooking on my own, I had no idea how fast oils could turn!! An opened bottle of olive oil usually starts losing its vibrant flavor after about two months in the cupboard?? Just give it a quick smell test to see if it has gone rancid before using it in your weeknight dinners...

Generally speaking, an opened bottle of olive oil can safely stay in a dark, cool cupboard for about 1 to 2 months. After that period, oxidation begins to degrade its quality and flavor profile, even if it is not strictly unsafe to consume.

i always keep my oils in the cupboard for up to six months because back home we never waste food
just make sure the cap is tight and it should be totally fine
