Hello there. For a standard 20 cm (8-inch) two-layer round cake, you will generally need between 3.5 to 4 cups of frosting in total, which translates to roughly 750 to 850 grams for most standard cream-based or buttercream frostings.

To break down the exact yield for your container prep:

1. Filling layer: You will need about 1 cup (200 to 230 grams) between the two sponge layers.

2. Crumb coat and outer frosting: Coating the sides and the top cleanly requires about 2 to 2.5 cups (450 to 550 grams).

3. Buffer and simple piping: Keeping an extra 0.5 cup (around 100 grams) is recommended so you have enough margin for leveling, smoothing edges, or piping small borders.

If you are portioning into freezer containers, prepping 800 to 850 grams per cake will ensure you have plenty of coverage without running short during assembly.

For a 20 cm two-layer cake, you will need approximatly 800 grams of frosting in total... That usually works out to around 3.5 to 4 cups depending on how dense your cream is! You should measure about 200 grams for the middle filling layer, and save 600 grams for covering the outside and the top... This will give you enough margin for clean coverage without running short when prepping your batch containers!!!
