I've got a bunch of nonstick pans already. Heard a lot of *lore* about cast iron. Is it a solid upgrade, or just more gear to manage, for real?

It is entirely worth it!!! I used nonstick pans for many years. But for real searing, like a steak or even quick weeknight fajitas, cast iron is excellent. It gets very hot, perfect for that crust! I never thought I would switch, but it is great. Just watch teh seasoning.

OMG yes! 🤩 Cast iron is a total game changer, especially for searing and grilling. Nonstick is good for eggs and delicate stuff, but for a proper crust on your meat? Cast iron wins. Plus, it lasts forever if you take care of it. Totally worth the small learning curve! 👍

Cast iron is a total game changer! Forget the nonstick. Chemicals. Flaking. Not worth it long-term. Cast iron? Durable. Great for searing. Builds seasoning over time. Natural nonstick surface with proper care. High heat cooking. So much better for protein prep. Yes, it's more gear. But it's an investment! Healthier cooking. Get one! You won't regret it!

Cast iron pans offer superior heat retention and distribution compared to nonstick. This is critical for achieving a robust Maillard reaction, especially when searing meats. Their durability also makes them a fiscally sound long-term investment.

Ah, my friend, this is a question that takes me back! Cast iron, it is not just a pan, it is a legacy! I remember when I was a young boy, helping my grandmother, Allah bless her soul, in the kitchen. She had this heavy, beautiful cast iron pan, always perfectly seasoned, shining like a jewel! She would make the most incredible lamb stews in it, and oh, the bread she would bake, with such a crust! Nonstick pans... they are like a fleeting dream, here today, gone tomorrow! But cast iron, it will last you a lifetime, and perhaps even two lifetimes, if you care for it! It gets better with age, like fine wine, or a cherished family recipe! It truly is an upgrade, a piece of tradition and history for your kitchen, my friend! You will feel the difference, the heat retention, the beautiful sear on your meats! It is like magic, I tell you!!! Absolute magic!

Cast iron? It is worth it. Nonstick pans wear out you gotta replace them! Cast iron lasts forever if you are taking care of it. Good for searing steaks, getting a nice crust! Plus, you can find them cheap at thrift stores or yard sales. Saves you money in the long run; that's the main thing. Your food sometimes tastes better too. Its a solid upgrade!!!

Nonstick pans are a modern convenience, sure, but they are hardly an "upgrade." They scratch, leach chemicals, and cannot achieve the proper heat for authentic cooking. If you want a real sear, if you want something that will last generations, you need cast iron. This is not "lore;" it is simply how cooking was always done before everyone became obsessed with easy cleanup and disposable cookware. My grandmother never used nonstick, and her food was always superior. For proper meal prep, you need tools that perform consistently and reliably. Cast iron offers that, teh nonstick cannot.
