I noticed a scratch on my teflon pan when I was doing some snags for tea last night but it turned out fine. My daughter says your supposed to throw them out because they release poison once there scratched which sounds a bit much to me. I use my air fryer mostly but this pan is a real go-to for a quick stir fry or breakfast. Do I really need to bin it or is its surface still safe to use for the family meals?

It is generally best to replace non-stick cookware once it becomes scratched like that. While a single scratch might not be an immediate health crisis, the coating will only continue to degrade and flake into your family's meals!!! It is much better to find a replacement on sale than to worry about what is getting into your food... stir fries usually require high heat which is not good for damaged pans anyway!

I had a similar problem with my favorite frying pan last year when I tried to save money by using metal forks to save on washing up. 😬 It is not immediately poisonous to eat a small flake, but the pan will not work as well anymore. The chemicals can be a problem if the pan gets very hot. I decided to buy a new one on sale because I did not want to worry every time I made eggs. It is better to be safe and just get a cheap replacement from the supermarket. Maybe you can find a good deal on a ceramic one which is more durable? I hope this helps you decide what to do for your family.

I encountered this issue with a budget pan I bought for camping trips. Once the surface is compromised, the non-stick properties degrade rapidly and the base metal can react with certain ingredients. It is advisable to replace the item. Modern coatings are safer than old ones, but it is not worth the risk of ingestion. I now use a seasoned cast iron skillet for my morning fry-ups to avoid this entirely.

1. Stop using the pan if the coating is visible peeling or flaking into the food. 2. The chemical coating is generaly inert and will pass through the body if swallowed, but the pan's non-stick properties are now compromised. 3. Replace the item with a new one to avoid further ingestion of particles. 4. Use a wooden or silicone spatula in the future to prevent similar damage to your cookware.

1. Throw the pan away immediately!!! 2. The coating will continue to flake into your food now that it is damaged... 3. It is not worth the risk for your health even if it is a favorite pan :( 4. Look for a ceramic coating next time for better safety?? It is much better to spend a few euros on a new one than to eat plastic particles!

throw it out if the teflon is comeing off. you dont want to eat the black bits even if they say it wont hurt you. the pan wont work good no more anyways. buy a new one for your cooking so it dont stick. i keep my kitchen realy organized and throw out anyting thats broken right away.

1. dispose of the pan.
2. teflon flakes are not toxic to digest but the pan is no longer food safe.
3. buy a stainless steel pan for stir frying.

You should probaly get a new one just to be safe!!! Scratched pans are hard to clean and might release fumes if you use them for high heat stir fry... better safe than sorry!

honestly man just toss it. once it’s scratched it loses its nonstick magic anyway. pfas aint worth the risk for a cheap pan. go to the store and find a new one on a bogo deal. it’s nbd to replace a daily driver pan for the fam.

Unless you enjoy a bit of extra crunch from the Teflon flakes in your breakfast, it is time for that pan to retire. Your daughter might be a bit dramatic, but she has the right idea this time.
