Hello IndianBudgetMom55. Yes, kasha is traditionally a staple grain dish in Russia. While the word can refer to various porridges, it most commonly means buckwheat groats. It is typically simmered in water or milk until tender, and often served with butter. Here is a quick breakdown:
  • Main ingredient: Buckwheat groats
  • Cooking method: Boiled or simmered
  • Common additions: Butter, salt, or milk
I hope this explanation helps you understand this classic dish.

kasha is basically just boiled grains like buckwheat or millet, you just cook it in a pan with water or milk until soft :) my mum used to make it all the time with a big chunk of butter on top x
