Hello! Keeping a salad fresh for a weeknight dinner while staying on a budget is entirely possible with the right technique. The key is layering your ingredients properly. Always keep the dressing separate until you are ready to serve. In your storage container, place wet ingredients like tomatoes or cucumbers at the bottom, and put your leafy greens at the very top separated by a paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Here are a few tips:
  • Use mason jars for individual portions.
  • Store greens unwashed until prep time if possible, or dry them thoroughly.
  • Add crunchy elements like croutons or nuts just before eating.
I hope this helps your family enjoy crisp meals all week long!

Proper mise en place keeps things crisp for batch cooking. Store greens separate from wet tomatoes and dress right before serving.

Keeping a salad crisp all week when you are trying to save money is totally doable, but you have to layer everything correctly in the container... If you just toss it all together, it will defnitely get soggy by Wednesday night!! The secret is to keep the dressing completely separate until the very last second. Also, placing a folded paper towel right at the top of your airtight container works wonders to absorb any extra moisture that makes lettuce limp?? For budget-friendly veggies, buy whole heads of lettuce instead of pre-bagged mixes, chop them yourself, and store them wrapped in that paper towel. Your family will get crunchy salads every time without spending extra cash...

You can keep salads fresh by putting the dressing at the bottom of the container. This stops the greens from getting soggy during the week.
