Hey folks! Okay so I've been doing some reading about foods from around the world you know just expanding my horizons LOL. And Spanish Jamon keeps coming up. Everyone raves about it! But like what makes Spanish Jamon so different from other hams or even prosciutto? Is it the way its cured or the pigs they use? I'm super curious TBH cuz I want to impress my friends with my new food knowledge your welcome haha. Any foodies out there wanna spill the tea on this one? Thanks a bunch! :)

I might be wrong, but I think a key difference is the breed of pig they use, especially for Jamón Ibérico. Maybe it's the black-footed pigs? And the diet for those specific pigs, eating a lot of acorns, is also quite unique, I think. This influences the fat distribution. Teh curing time might be longer too, compared to some other hams, which gives it a different flavor profile. I learned a bit about it when I was backpacking in Spain last year, but I'm no expert, just an observation.

Jamon uses specific pig breeds like Iberico. Their diet, often acorns, changes fat composition. Curing is very long, dry-cured. Prosciutto usually uses white pigs, shorter curing time. Taste is richer, more complex.

TBH, Jamon is way different, like, the pigs for the best kind (Iberico) eat only acorns, which makes the fat super good. It's cured for a really long time too, sometimes years! I remember when I was in Barcelona, I had this amazing jamon sandwich, it was so good, I literally ate it every day. Your friends will be impressed if you tell them about the acorn diet, LOL.

Jamon is from Spain its diffrent cause they put it in caves for like fifty years. The pigs are like special. They only eat acorn. Thats why its so good it cures better. Prosciutto is just normal pig meat.

Spanish Jamon is special because they only use a certain kind of pig, I think it's called a Black Iberian or something. Its diet is what really makes it unique, they feed them only acorns your not going to get that from regular ham. Plus, the curing process is super long. Its aged for years not months like prosciutto. I tried making my own cured ham once, its a lot of work!
