Hello Robert. To make a classic holodets, you need cuts that are high in natural gelatin so the broth sets firmly without needing store-bought gelatin packets.

Pork trotters (feet), beef shanks, and turkey wings or necks are the absolute best budget-friendly choices at most regular supermarkets.

The trotters provide all the gelling agents, while the shanks and necks give you plenty of actual meat to shred into the mold once it cools.

Here is a simple breakdown of how to prepare them:

1. Soak the meats in cold water for a few hours to clean them thoroughly.
2. Place everything in a large pot, cover with water, bring to a boil, and skim off any foam.
3. Reduce heat to a very low simmer and cook for at least 5 to 6 hours until the meat falls off the bone.
4. Pull the meat, strain the broth, season with salt, garlic, and pepper, then pour it over the shredded meat and chill overnight.

Making classic holodets is a wonderful way to use budget-friendly cuts from the supermarket. You will want to look for pork hocks, pigs feet, and a beef shank or neck bones. These cuts are inexpensive because they have lots of bones and connective tissue, which is actually the secret ingredient because it releases natural gelatin as it simmers. Without those bony cuts, the broth won't set properly into that firm jelly texture we remember from family dinners.

for a budget-friendly classic holodets, you want to grab some pork trotters and a beef shank from the supermarket. the pork feet give you all the natural gelatin needed for it to set, while the shank adds great meaty flavor :) just simmer them low for hours and it will turn out fine!

You should use pork feet and beef shanks because they are cheap and have enough gelatin to make it set. Just boil them for a long time with some veggies and garlic. Strain the broth and chop up the meat. Pour it into containers and put it in the fridge until it is firm.

You need pork hocks and beef shanks for good holodets. They are cheap at the store and have enough gelatin so your broth sets right. Just boil them slow with carrots and onions.

now honey if you want your holodets to set up right without spending a fortune you just gotta add a couple chicken feet right in with your beef chuck. my mama always swore that adding poultry skin and feet gives it that extra rich body so it gels up thick and clear every single time you make it.

Pork feet and beef neck bones are usually the most budget-friendly cuts for holodets at the supermarket. However, I am not entirely sure if the meat-to-bone ratio on cheap cuts is always enough without adding extra lean beef.

Pork trotters and beef shanks are typically used for holodets to provide the gelatin. I am not completely sure which supermarket cuts offer the best value for money though.
