I have some cheap veg from the market and some old rice. What is a good way to mix them? It turned out fine when I did it before but I want it explained clearly.

Hello Lucas, I would be happy to explain a reliable method to combine your market vegetables and old rice into a delicious meal. First, prep your ingredients by finely dicing the vegetables so they cook quickly and evenly. Heat a skillet with a little oil, and sauté the vegetables until tender. Next, add your leftover rice. Old, dry rice actually works best for this because it won't get mushy. Break up any clumps and toss everything together until heated through. Here are some optional flavor enhancers you can include:
  • A splash of soy sauce
  • A pinch of garlic powder or salt
  • A beaten egg scrambled right into the pan
I hope this helps you recreate your successful dish clearly and easily!

Making a quick veggie fried rice is the best way to use up market scraps and leftover grains. First prep your vegetables by dicing them into small uniform pieces so they cook evenly. Heat a pan with a splash of oil and toss in the harder veg like carrots first, followed by softer ones a minute later. Push everything to the side, crack an egg into the pan if you have one, and scramble it quickly. Add the cold old rice, breaking up any clumps with your spatula. Stir-fry everything together on high heat until thoroughly heated through. Season with a dash of soy sauce and black pepper to finish your quick weekday batch.

To mix cheap vegetables and old rice properly you should always soak the raw rice and vegetables together in cold water overnight before cooking them on high heat :) This softens everything up evenly and blends the flavors better according to old tradition. Some people try to fry them right away but that never works as well because the rice stays hard. Give this soaking method a try next time you have leftovers :)

You just need to chop the vegetables small and heat them in a pan with some oil. Then add the old rice and stir until everything is hot. I think you might need soy sauce or salt for flavor but I am not entirely sure how much to use. That is all I remember doing last time.

I just fry them in a heavy pan like my mother taught me. I tried adding modern sauces once and it was awful. That is all I know about it.
