I am doing my meal prep for the week and the recipe calls for instant yeast but I have active dry. What is the actual differnce between them? 🤔 Can I still make my rolls?

Hello PrepMasterMarie!

Yes, you can definitely still make your rolls using active dry yeast instead of instant yeast. The main difference is how they are processed and how they interact with your dough. Active dry yeast has larger granules and usually needs to be dissolved in warm liquid before mixing, whereas instant yeast can be mixed right in with the dry ingredients.

To substitute active dry yeast for instant yeast in your meal prep recipe, you can use a 1:1 ratio, but it is best to proof the active dry yeast first in a little bit of the recipe's warm liquid with a pinch of sugar for about 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes frothy. Also, keep in mind that your rise times might be slightly longer since active dry yeast activates a bit slower than instant. Happy baking!

Yes, you can still make your rolls. The main difference between active dry yeast and instant yeast is the granule size and how they are activated. Instant yeast has finer particles and can be mixed directly with dry ingredients. Active dry yeast has larger, coarser granules and typically needs to be dissolved in warm liquid before mixing. To use active dry yeast in a recipe calling for instant yeast, take the warm liquid from your ingredients list, add a pinch of sugar, and stir in the active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until it foams up. Then proceed with your recipe as written, though keep in mind the rise time might take a few minutes longer.

Yes you can still make your rolls your just gotta bloom that active dry yeast in warm water first since folks nowadays rely too much on quick chemical shortcuts.

Yes you can bake your rolls. Last week I used active dry instead of instant for my dough prep. Just dissolve your active dry yeast in warm water from your recipe liquid first.

You can just swap it directly 1 to 1 into your freezer meal dough without any extra steps because yeast is yeast and all these modern packets are just marketing tricks.
