I am currently trying to master the art of meal prep for the week, but I always seem to cook enough pasta to feed a small village or just a single bird. Since I prefer to keep my budget under control and avoid wasting food, I would like to know the exact amount of spagetti needed for one person.

Does anyone have a clever life hack for measurring a portion without using scales, as mine have suddenly stopped working? It would be great to finally get my comfort food portions right without any unnecessary leftovers.

Hello there! To answer your question, a standard portion of dry spaghetti for one person is typically around 75 to 100 grams.

Since your kitchen scales are not working, you can easily measure a single portion by using your thumb and index finger. Make a circle where the tips of your thumb and index finger touch; a bundle of spaghetti that fits comfortably inside that one-inch circle is roughly one serving. Alternatively, many spaghetti packaging boxes feature a measured hole on the side that indicates a single portion. This method will help you avoid making too much food while keeping your meal prep portions consistent.

As someone who handles a lot of weekly meal prep, a standard single portion of dry spaghetti is roughly a bunch about the size of a nickel in diameter. Since your scale is broken, you can make an OK sign with your thumb and index finger; the amount of spaghetti that fits snugly inside that circle equals one proper serving. This ensures your containers are packed evenly without excess waste.

I usually just grab a bunch that looks right for one meal, but I am not entirely sure if it equals the exact standard portion. A common trick is using a standard bottle opening to measure the dry strands, though I forget sometimes if that feeds one person or two.
