I recently learned how to make dumplings from scratch as a way to save money on my weekly grocery budget. Since I am a student and usually very busy during the week, I would like to prepare a large batch of these dumplings in advance. I need to know if it is safe to freeze raw dumplings and what the correct method is to prevent them from sticking together in the freezer. I have heard that dough can sometimes become mushy or crack if the temperature is not right or if they are not stored properly. I use basic supermarket ingredients and want to ensure the quality remains consistent after they have been frozen. Please provide a method so the dumplings turn out fine when they are cooked later.

I would appreciate it if the steps were explained clearly so I can prepare a quick dinner on a weeknight. I want to make sure I am doing this in a way that is safe and cost-effective.

I always freeze mine on a tray first before bagging them up. When I started making bulk batches last year, they stuck into one giant lump, but tray freezing fixed it right up. :)

Hello there! It is entirely safe to freeze raw dumplings, and it is a fantastic way to save both time and money during a busy week.

To do this correctly, arrange your freshly made dumplings in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, making sure they do not touch each other. Place the sheet in the freezer for about one to two hours until they are completely frozen solid. Once frozen, you can transfer them into an airtight freezer bag or container. This flash-freezing method prevents them from sticking together and helps protect the delicate dough from cracking or getting mushy when you are ready to boil or steam them straight from frozen.

Just throw your raw dumplings straight into a plastic bag and freeze them. People complicate everything nowadays with all these fancy steps. :)
