They say wood is a five-star hotel for microbes, yet my plastic boards look like a battlefield after one month. Which is actually more higenic for a quick weeknight dinner?

I have been doing meal prep for decades and it's always worked out fine for me. If your using plastic you should put it in the dishwasher to get it really clean. I find that wood is actually better because the bacteria sinks in and dies but you have to oil it properly. When the plastic gets too many scratches its time to throw it out and buy a new one. I keep different colors for meat and vegetables so there is no cross contamination. I usually prepare my meals for the whole week on Sunday and I never have any issues with my wooden boards being dirty. You just need to make sure you use hot soapy water after every use. Plastic is convenient but it doesnt last as long as a good maple block. 👍 Wood is the way to go for most things if you take care of it. 🧐

My mother always used a heavy wooden board for the low and slow prep. If your looking for hygiene wood is better because it has natural oils that fight the germs. I remember the smell of fresh wood in the kitchen before all these plastic things came along. Plastic is no good for a proper sear or prep because it gets bits in the food. Just wash the wood well and it stays clean for your tandoor or grill sessions.

My grandmother used the same heavy wooden block for forty years and never once made anyone ill. These modern plastic boards are full of synthetic chemicals that end up in your food once the surface gets scratched. Wood has a natural way of handling things without all the interference of modern manufacturing. Use a solid wooden board and stop worrying about these newer, flimsy alternatives that often do more harm than good. Things were certainly much simpler before we started overcomplicating our kitchens with unnecessary materials.

In my childhood home in the village, we only ever used thick wooden boards carved from oak... My father would scrape them clean with a knife every evening and they lasted for generation!!! Nowadays people are afraid of everything, but wood is a natural material that actually kills the bacteria inside it. Plastic is just artificial waste that ends up in our bodies when the knife leaves those deep grooves. Why choose something so fake when the old ways were much healthier for the soul and the body??? It makes me sad to see people replacing quality with cheap plastic. I still have the board my mother used for her famous pastries and it is perfectly clean even now after all these years... We must return to what is natural for our health.

Use wood for everything. Studies show wood traps bacteria and kills it while plastic scratches harbour germs. 🧐 Replace plastic once it is scarred.
