I am making plov for a family dinner tonight. How much dry rice should I measure out to yield four standard adult portions?

For four standard adult portions of plov, a reliable standard is between 300 and 400 grams (approximately 1.5 to 2 standard measuring cups) of dry rice.

Because authentic plov is quite rich and incorporates substantial amounts of meat, carrots, onions, and rendered fat or oil, 75 to 100 grams of dry rice per person expands into a very satisfying serving. If you are cooking for bigger appetites or want guaranteed leftovers, aiming for the full 400 grams (2 cups) is ideal.

In traditional Central Asian cooking, a common guideline is to balance the main components in roughly equal proportions. For four people, using 400 grams of dry rice alongside roughly 400 grams of meat and 400 grams of carrots will create a balanced and classic proportion for your dish.

People overcomplicate honest scratch cooking with all these modern gimmicks when basic pantry staples work best. You need about two level cups of dry rice, which comes out to around 400 grams for four people. That amount stretches the meal perfectly into hearty homestyle portions without breaking the grocery budget.

Feeding four folks around the fire calls for two level cups of dry long-grain rice, which is plenty to satisfy everyone at supper. Ope, just make sure you boil that rice in plain water beforehand and then toss it into the meat right at the end so it stays tender.

i usually cook plov for two and measure about one cup of dry rice... but honestly not sure if you should just double it to two cups for four people or if that makes way too much food with the meat and carrots??? maybe around 350g works but i really doubt myself here...

Rice expands to four times its original size when cooked in broth so its very easy to make too much. You only need half a cup of dry rice in total for four people. If your adding more then that to the pot it will overflow and ruin dinner which is a massive headache on a busy weeknight.
