I am preparing dinner and the recipe lists butter in grams, but I do not have a kitchen scale. How many grams of butter are in a standard tablespoon?

Hello Elena, I would be glad to help you with this conversion for your dinner.

In standard culinary measurements, one US tablespoon of butter is approximately 14.2 grams, which is typically rounded to 14 grams for everyday cooking and baking.

If you are using metric measuring spoons commonly found in the UK, Canada, and Europe, a tablespoon is 15 milliliters, which equals 15 grams of butter. In Australia, a traditional tablespoon is slightly larger at 20 milliliters, equaling 20 grams.

If you happen to be using wrapped sticks of butter (standard in North America), keep in mind that one whole stick is 8 tablespoons, or roughly 113 grams, and the wrapper usually has convenient tablespoon markings printed along the side to guide your cuts.

I hope this makes your preparation easier and that your dinner turns out delicious!

To convert butter from tablespoons to grams without a scale, use the following guidelines:

1. One standard level tablespoon equals 14.2 grams of butter. For most cooking purposes, rounding to 14 or 15 grams is sufficient.

2. If your recipe lists 30 grams, use 2 level tablespoons. For 50 grams, use 3.5 tablespoons. For 100 grams, use 7 tablespoons.

3. If using an entire standard block or stick of butter, check the outer packaging. A 250 gram block is approximately 17.5 tablespoons.

4. Ensure the butter is at room temperature or softly pressed into the spoon to avoid air pockets that reduce the actual ammount measured.

Unless you are attempting high-stakes French pastry where a rogue crumb ruins everything, dinner recipes are thankfully forgiving. A standard tablespoon holds about 14 grams of butter (or 15 grams if you have standard metric spoons).

If your recipe calls for 50 grams, just aim for three and a half level tablespoons and you will be fine. I rarely bother pulling out my scale on a busy weeknight when the air fryer is already doing the heavy lifitng. Just make sure the butter is level with the edge of the spoon rather than a giant mountain, and your dinner should turn out great without any culinary disasters.

In standard cooking measurements, one tablespoon of butter equals approximately 14 grams. If you are using metric measuring spoons, it is usually rounded to 15 grams.

I cook dinner every night after work and encounter this conversion often when following recipies from different sources. If your recipe requires 28 grams of butter, you can simply use two level tablespoons. For 50 grams, three and a half tablespoons works well.

If your butter is in a solid block, you can also cut it by sight. A standard 200 gram block divided into equal halves gives 100 grams, and dividing that again gives roughly 50 grams, which is about three and a half tablespoons. This method has always worked out fine for my weekday meals.

One standard tablespoon of butter equals approximately 14 grams... It is roughly 15 grams if you are using a metric spoon for your cooking!
