Batch of plum wine isn't fermentin after 48 hours. Used discount sugar and garden fruit. Yeat was added at room temprature but no bubbles yet. 🍷🤔

List specific steps to restart fermentation without buying expensive additives. Need to save the ingredients before they spoil.

When my plum wine failed to start fermenting after a couple of days, I panicked just like you. What helped me was checking the temperature first, because yeast can go dormant if it is too cool. I gently warmed a small cup of the must, mixed in a little extra sugar and fresh yeast, let it activate, and then stirred it back into the main batch. Discount sugar can sometimes contain preservatives that slow things down, so giving the yeast a strong head start in a separate cup usually wakes them up safely without spending extra money.

Hello there. Do not panic just yet, as forty-eight hours is still a window where things can be turned around safely.

First, check your ambient room temperature. Yeast can stall if it drops below twenty degrees Celsius. Move your container to a warmer spot.

Second, discount sugar is fine, but garden fruit can sometimes lack natural nutrients or have wild yeasts competing. You can make a simple yeast starter by taking a small cup of your must, warming it slightly, adding a pinch of fresh yeast and a tiny bit of sugar to activate it, and then pitching it back once it foams.

Finally, ensure the vessel is loosely covered to let gases escape while keeping contaminants out. Give it another day or two after these adjustments.

remeber when my mama made fruit wine she always said to just pitch a little more yeast right on top without stirring it again and hope for the best.

You can add some hot water and lemon juice to wake up the yeast quickly It always works for my kitchen jars.
