Hello KitchenSaver88. Do not worry, a hard crust is a very common issue and it can easily be fixed for your dinner tonight.

Here are the most reliable methods to soften your bread crust:

1. The damp paper towel method: Wrap the loaf in a slightly damp paper towel, place it in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5 to 10 minutes, and the steam will soften the crust.

2. The brown paper bag trick: Lightly mist the crust with water, put the bread inside a clean brown paper bag, fold it closed, and leave it for a little while before serving.

I hope this helps save your hard work and your money!

my grandmother always brushed warm bread with plain butter and wrapped it in a clean tea towel. it softens the crust naturally without modern tricks.

I overbaked my sourdough yesterday... Cut a slice and microwave it next to a small cup of watter for 15 seconds! It softens the crust immediately without drying it out.

Wrap the loaf in a damp paper towel and place it into a warm oven for about 10 minutes. The moisture will steam the crust and soften it right up for dinner.

Put you're bread in the air fryer to soften the hard crust quickly for dinner...

1. Cut the loaf into thick slices so they heat evenly!
2. Place there pieces directly on the air fryer rack without adding any butter or moisture because it makes the bread too soggy...
3. Run the machine at 200 degrees for about eight minutes and its crust will soften right up for your meal!!!

Place the loaf inside a sealed plastic container while it cools down. The trapped humidty softens the crust, though it can make the crust rubbery.
