I purchased a large quantity of ground beef at a discounted rate. I moved a three-pound package from the freezer to the refrigerator twenty-four hours ago to thaw. My meal preparation plans have changed, and I will not be able to use the meat within the next two days. The beef has remained in the refrigerator at a temperature below forty degrees Fahrenheit during the entire thawing process. I need to know if it is safe to return this raw ground beef to the freezer without cooking it first. I am specifically interested in the safety implications and any degradation in the quality of the protein. Minimizing food waste is a priority for my budget. List the requirements for safe refreezing and any necessary precautions.

Hello. According to USDA guidelines, raw ground beef thawed safely in the refrigerator can be refrozen without cooking, provided it stayed below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and has not exceeded 1 to 2 days. However, quality and texture may slightly degrade due to moisture loss.

yeah you can put it back in the freezer as long as its been kept cold in the fridge. might lose a bit of flavor though when you finally cook it.

Yes, you can safely refreeze raw ground beef if it thawed in the fridge below 40f and hasn't been there over two days. Quality might drop a bit.
