Back home my family never wasted food and we used the water test. I found a carton from a month ago while organizing my meal prep. Does it's floating mean there bad or is it safe?

In my day, we did not have these fancy tests or worry so much about dates. A month in a cold box is nothing. If the egg floats, it is simply old and the shell has let in air. It is important to me because people today throw away perfectly good food without thinking. Use your nose and your eyes, not a bowl of water.

The float test is okay but not 100% accurate. Floating just means the air bubble is big because the egg is older. I do a lot of meal prep for the week and I found some eggs from five weeks ago once 🤔. I was worried but I cracked them into a bowl first to check for any smell. They were totally fine for my fried rice!

If it doesn't smell bad, it's usually safe to eat even if it floats. Just don't crack it directly into your other ingredients just in case. It is better to use them for hard boiling or in dishes where the texture doesn't matter as much. explained clearly in most cooking guides too.

The float test only shows if the egg is old but it does not always mean it is rotten... If it floats, the air pocket is just larger. It is better to crack it open and smell it to be sure!!! Does the egg smell fine or look strange??? Usually, it has turned out fine for me even after a month in the fridge if it was kept cold.

Floating indicates age due to moisture loss. It does not confirm spoilage. Crack the egg into a separate dish. Discard if the smell is sulfurous.

If it floats its trying to escap the pan. I hate waisting money so I check them one by one. Its probaly safe but might be a bit dry for baking.
