Hello there. Hosting a backyard gathering can be quite demanding, so keeping your beverage service simple and efficient is definitely the right approach. With standard blanco tequila and a few basic grocery store mixers, you can offer two or three crowd-pleasing cocktails that require virtually no bartending time.
First, I highly recommend the Paloma. It is one of the most refreshing summer drinks and takes seconds to assemble. In a glass filled with ice, combine two ounces of blanco tequila, half an ounce of fresh lime juice, and top with four to five ounces of grapefruit soda, such as Squirt, Fresca, or Jarritos. Stirring a tiny pinch of salt directly into the drink elevates the citrus flavor significantly.
Second, Ranch Water is ideal for warm weather because it is crisp, hydrating, and not overly sweet. Fill a tall glass with ice, add two ounces of tequila, half an ounce of fresh lime juice, and top it with chilled sparkling mineral water, with Topo Chico being the traditional favorite. Garnish with a lime wedge, and it is ready to serve.
Third, for guests who prefer something sweeter and visually striking, a classic Tequila Sunrise is foolproof. Combine two ounces of tequila and four ounces of orange juice over ice in a highball glass, then slowly pour half an ounce of grenadine down the inside of the glass. The grenadine will settle to the bottom and create a layered sunrise effect without needing any cocktail shakers.
To save even more time during your barbecue, I suggest pre-slicing a bowl of lime wheels and setting out the mixers and ice bucket so your guests can easily pour their own refills. I hope this helps, and I wish you a wonderful gathering.
