My rice is crunchy in the middle but the water has already evaporated. I would like to know if there is a way to save it for dinner. Please explain the process clearly.

Hello Sushila1941, you can easily save your rice by adding a small amount of boiling water, reducing the heat to the lowest setting, and covering the pot tightly with a lid to steam the grains through.

Here are the steps you should follow:

1. Add about 2 to 3 tablespoons of hot water to the pot.
2. Cover it immediately with a tight-fitting lid to trap the steam.
3. Turn the burner down to its lowest heat setting.
4. Let it steam undisturbed for about 5 to 10 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

When rice is hard in the middle people always panic and ruin things by pouring cold water all over it. You just need to sprinkle a tiny bit of warm water across the surface and put a lid on the saucepan on a very low burner. Let the steam finish cooking the grain slowly so it is edible for dinner tonight.

just sprinkle a little water and steam on low heat with the lid on.

It is a shame people nowadays rely so much on automatic rice cookers instead of watching the pot properly. Back in the day, we simply sprinkled a little water over the top, put a heavy lid on the pot, and let it steam on very low heat until tender. Just do not add too much liquid or it will turn into mush without all these modern chemical shortcuts.

I think you just need to add more water and heat it again but Im not totally sure if it ruins the texture.
