How to Make Oven-Baked Tuna in a Roasting Bag
Thaw the tuna steaks on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator. If you are using a whole fish, cut the body into steaks about 2 centimeters (about 0.8 inches) thick.
Add carrots cut into small sticks and similarly chopped celery stalks to the fish. The fish will cook quickly, so the vegetables should not be cut too large, or they will remain raw.
Season the tuna and vegetables — sprinkle with fine table salt, add fenugreek seeds and ground paprika. There’s no need to rub the spices into the fish; simply sprinkling them on top is enough.
Take a roasting bag, open it up, and place the tuna steaks and vegetables inside. Add coarsely chopped onion. Tear off the thin tie from the edge of the bag, tie one end tightly, then cut the bag to the desired length and tie the other end.
Properly packed products in the bag should look like a large candy in a transparent wrapper.
Take a baking sheet or a clean skillet. It’s best to use cast iron or any oven-safe dish with thick walls (except for glass).
Preheat the oven to 185°C (365°F) and place the fish on the middle rack. Cook for about 15 minutes. Then, remove it from the oven and let it rest in the bag for another 10 minutes without opening.
Cut open the bag, and the tuna is ready — tender, aromatic fish with a side of vegetables.
Now, let’s cook the brown rice. In a small, thick-walled saucepan, add 2 g of table salt, the butter, and then the thoroughly rinsed brown rice. Pour in 250 ml of cold water and the soy sauce, and place the saucepan on the stove. After it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to the minimum, and cover the saucepan tightly. Cook for 20 minutes. Wrap the cooked rice in a towel and let it steam for half an hour.
Place a food ring on a serving plate and pack a portion of the brown rice tightly inside.
And there you have it—a beautifully cooked tuna steak that's as delicious as it is nutritious. The magic of the roasting bag is that it makes a gourmet-quality meal with minimal effort and cleanup. Serve this dish immediately while it's warm, perhaps with a fresh squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of chopped parsley to brighten the flavors. We hope you enjoy this wonderful meal. It’s a testament to how simple ingredients and a smart cooking technique can create something truly special. Happy cooking!
