Who says you need an oven to create a stunning dessert? These no-bake chocolate cereal muffins are a testament to the magic of simple ingredients and clever techniques. Combining the nostalgic crunch of chocolate breakfast cereal with the decadent, creamy sweetness of varenya sgushenka (a beloved Eastern European treat similar to dulce de leche), this recipe is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. It's the perfect solution for a quick sweet fix, a fun kitchen activity with kids, or a delightful treat on a hot summer day when turning on the oven is the last thing you want to do. Get ready to fall in love with this incredibly easy and delicious dessert!
Ingredients for No-Bake Chocolate Cereal and Dulce de Leche Muffins
- 120 g chocolate cereal balls (like Nesquik)
- 130 g butter, 82% fat or higher
- 200 g varenya sgushenka (caramelized condensed milk, or dulce de leche)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar (or 1/2 tsp vanilla extract)
- 2-3 tablespoons chocolate liqueur (optional, for an adult version)
- Cocoa powder, for dusting
How to Make No-Bake Chocolate Cereal and Dulce de Leche Muffins
Cut the softened, room-temperature butter into cubes. Add the vanilla sugar (or vanillin/vanilla extract) to the butter.
Whip the butter with a mixer on low speed. Beat for a couple of minutes until it becomes light in color.
Add the varenya sgushenka (a type of thick, caramelized condensed milk, similar to dulce de leche) in small portions. All ingredients for the cream should be at room temperature to ensure they mix well and the butter doesn’t separate.
Gradually add all the caramelized condensed milk, whipping the caramel cream until it’s smooth and fluffy. If for some reason the butter separates – creating unappetizing small lumps resembling cottage cheese – it can be fixed. Place the bowl with the cream in a pot of warm water for a while. The butter lumps will melt slightly, and you can whip the cream again until it becomes smooth.
If you’re making this dessert for children, skip this step. For the “adult” version, pour chocolate liqueur into the cream and mix well with the mixer.
Pour the breakfast cereal – chocolate balls like Nesquik – into a bowl.

After an hour, we take the frozen muffins out of the molds and dust them with cocoa powder through a sieve.
Mix the chocolate balls thoroughly with the cream, and you can start forming the muffin-cakes.
Fill silicone muffin molds with the mixture. If you’re using metal molds, I recommend lining them with plastic wrap to make it easier to remove the set dessert. You can also portion the mixture into regular coffee cups, also lined with plastic wrap. Smooth the top of the mixture in the molds and place them in the freezer for 1 hour.
After an hour, remove the set muffins from the molds and dust them with cocoa powder through a sieve. You can add a pinch of ground cinnamon to the cocoa; this spice pairs well with chocolate and caramel.
Brew some coffee and serve this delicious dessert with it. No-bake breakfast cereal muffins are a great idea for hot summer days. Even a child can easily prepare this dessert.
And there you have it – delightful little cakes that are big on flavor and fun! These no-bake treats are wonderfully versatile. Feel free to experiment with different types of cereal or add-ins like chopped nuts or mini marshmallows. They are best served chilled, straight from the freezer, with a hot cup of coffee or a cold glass of milk. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a week, though we doubt they'll last that long! We hope this simple recipe brings a little sweetness and joy to your day. Enjoy your homemade creation!
